Inspired by a trip to the Museum

While I will always love making 2D art and working in glass, a trip to the Toledo Museum of Art changed my trajectory. -I saw a lonely little pendant in a display case. I thought it was an earring. I imagined a long forgotten woman coming home from a party. “Gosh darn it! I lost an earring!” While we don’t know the original artist, or the original owner, we can still admire the craftsmanship of the piece and be inspired by the details. -I realized that if I focused on metalsmithing, some of my pieces could outlive me.

My “pivot point” was at our local Toledo Museum of Art:

Greek and Egyptian Exhibits

Every handcrafted piece of jewelry has an inspiration. Whether the inspiration comes from the colors or design patterns in an individual stone, or the idea of capturing something seen in Nature, “permanently,” in metal. The desire to create is ignited with the hope to create a design that can be passed down through generations. My pieces are made by hand with traditional methods of metalsmithing.
